Birds in a Nest

“Birds in a Nest” (ink drawing w/digital color; 5.5″ x 5.5″)

Louisiana Sky

“Louisiana Sky” (mixed media: collage, watercolor, clear epoxy)

The little horse painting was done several years ago. The collage pieces are from a large painting that didn’t work. I used attached the collage pieces to a cradled wooden panel (my newest interest) and sealed it with an epoxy. This little 8″ x 8″ piece will be available at NLAC’s Blend on the Bayou silent auction, May 7th.

Rooted in Love

“Rooted in Love” (watercolor on paper; 5-1/2″ x 5-1/2″)

This was a fun little piece to create. Lots of pushing and pulling of darks and lights throughout the roots. It’s amazing how much time goes into such a small piece, with lots of decisions to make. I rarely start with a penciled in concept, so the movement of the watercolor brush throughout the drawing is intuitive and responsive to what appears.

“Unraveled” (watercolor on half sheet watercolor paper)

My watercolors are almost never traditional…well, never actually. I’ve tried to create beautiful, traditional watercolor paintings, but I get bored easily and finding things in a painting that weren’t there in the beginning keeps me going and keeps me happy. There are two ballerinas in this piece (for some reason, no one sees them at first). There are trees and a road and a moon…all intertwined together, while unraveling at the same time. Like life…it entwines…unravels…reveals.
